T&A Breaks 3

iTunes / Amazon / Beatport / Turntable Lab / Juno

T&A Breaks is DJ Ayres and Tittsworth’s wildly popular series of loops for DJs and producers. The first volume on A-Trak’s AMMO Records focused on Baltimore Club and Miami Bass, while the second, on T&A Records, cast the net a little wider with Bmore, house, juke, fidget, dubstep, etc. T&A Breaks III is dedicated to Moombahton, a genre Dave Nada introduced with three EPs on T&A Records. Producers such as Munchi, Sabo and JWLS took the ball and ran with it, expanding on the original idea (Dutch House slowed down to Reggaeton tempo). A year and a half later the movement is overflowing with talent.

T&A Breaks 3 is over an hour of drums, percussion, synths, basslines, buildups, shouting, fucking, fighting and chicken noises, direct from the production libraries of some of the top moombahton producers from all over the world: Munchi, Sabo, Ayres, Orion, Melo, Philadelphyinz, A-Mac and Torro Torro. Throw these loops in your sampler and you’re ready to make Moombahton like the pros.  Here is a freebie from JWLS:

Cassius Slay – Tree House EP by Young Robots Records

After the success of the three Moombahton De Acero projects, we’re proud to be putting out our first all-original moombahton project from Columbus, Ohio’s Cassius Slay. Bringing together dirty dubstep synths, intense buildups and hype vocal ad-libs, these tracks have already seen support by Diplo, Tittsworth, Nadastrom, Cosmo Baker and more. After all the bouncy fun, the duo closes it out with palate-cleansing serenity on the EP’s title track, an homage to Colombus’s groovy sample-heavy hip-hop scene.

My Mixpak FM just came out – a mix that includes dancehall, uk funky house, moombahton, jungle, grime, dub and roots reggae. You should already be familiar with Mixpak, the label behind Vybz Kartel & Dre Skull, Melé, Koyote, Sissy Nobby and a plethora of others. Heavy Warmup: Patski Live at Do-Over

Heavy Warmup 11: Patski Love (Juicy) – Live at The Do-Over Oslo (all DO set), 8-13-11 by Juicy: C. Stallion & P. Love on Mixcloud

“This set was recorded live from The Do-Over Oslo at Fugazi on August 13th this summer and I was on after my Juicy-partner Chris Stallion set off. WIth a party like The Do-Over where all the best DJ’s in the world have played I figured I had to DO something different so I played a set with DO in all songs (titles). I was playing before Do-Over boss Chris Haycock, The Rub’s incomparable Cosmo Baker and last but not least Kingdom, so I wanted the set to build from Rap and R&B, through Soul and Disco up to Club levelz. Enjoy!”

Dancehall Days

I’ve been making a concerted effort to get back on my dancehall shit in the last six months or so, from recording with Natalie Storm to remixing Federation to spinning on the Deadly Dragon show on EVR. Here is a short piece I wrote for the newly relaunched Large Up site on Okay Player, about Cutty Ranks:

http://largeup.okayplayer.com/2011/10/13/throwback-thursdays-dj-ayres-on-cutty-ranks-the-stopper/

You can listen to my set on Deadly Dragon in their archives, just click on October 3. My set is in the second hour. And here is my remix for Federation:

FEDERATION SOUND FT. BLING DAWG – CUT OFF (DJ AYRES REMIX)

I wanted to do a bounce / dancehall track and the Federation Sound dons Max and Kenny said no samples, so I recreated the Triggaman drums from scratch on the 808 kit in Battery and put a huge sub bass underneath. Big up to Nick Chacona for mixing it down with me. My favorite mix from the release is DJ Theory’s moombahton remix of To-isis, this shit is bananas! Max played the whole remix album on Federation Invasion (also on East Village Radio – click October 12).

Young Robots Mix

http://therub.crewcial.org/YoungRobotsMix.mp3 Right Click “Save Target As”

A few years ago my friend from Philly Pittsburgh, DJ Apt One, sent me demos from his project, RCMP. To my surprise this wasn’t edits or mashups, it was full fledged original disco tracks by Apt and his man Paul aka Relative Q. I’m a big fan of Italo disco so I loved it and played the hell of the vinyl when it came out. Since then I’ve been working a lot with Skinny Friedman (Apt One’s partner in Philadelphyinz), playing parties together in Philly and in New York, and kept up a friendship with RCMP as well.

This year we talked about putting their new EP on T&A, a discussion which evolved into me jumping in to help out with Young Robots, the label they started a few years ago to put out RCMP and Philadelphyinz related music. We relaunched the label this fall and we’re on a roll, from disco and house to moombahton to weird remixes of rap and whatever the fuck we’re feeling. So I’m really excited to present this DJ mix, which features a bunch of the recent records we’ve put out plus a few exclusives which will be out in the coming months, starting with RCMP II this Tuesday, October 18. Tracklist after the jump, and be sure to check out their insane new video as well.
